Translating Koraskow
Locale specific information in Korsakow is stored in text files, one for each language. The files look like:
button.label=Create SNU widget.label=Preview
Where the part to the left of the equals (the key) "=" identifies where the text appears in the application and the part to the right (the value) is the text itself. Translating Korsakow is therefore as simple as downloading one of the existing versions and translating each entry.
When saving your translation file you should be sure to use UTF-8. This ensures that non-english characters will show up correctly. If you are unsure what this means or how to do so, please contact a developer.
Considerations
- The official build is in english. What is meant by this is that all text in the applicaiton is first written in english and then translated to other languages, so while translating from any of the languages is OK, it is good to reference the english version to ensure a correct interpretation.
- Some text may be less than obvious to translate just by seeing it. For example seeing the english text "Open" you could not tell if it meant the verb or the adjective, and thus might not know whether to translate into french as "Ouvrir" or "Ouvert". For this reason it is advisable to look in the application itself for the text you are translating to get an idea how it is used. The key is supposed to indicate this, but it is not always apparant since the key relates somewhat to the technical inner workings of the software. If you are unsure where a specific key appears in the application or conversely what the key is for a specific piece of text in the application (in the case of duplicates), please contact a developer.
- Text (value) entries are always on a single line. To have a line break in a text entry you enter \n (backslash n). You can see examples of this in the current files.
- You will notice some entries with strange looking symbols like {0} or {1}. These indicate placeholders. For example the title bar of the application might read "Korsakow - {0}", which ends up as "Korsakow - Untitled Project" when you create a new project. If it is unclear from the context what the placeholder represents, you can either try locating the text in the application or contact a developer.
- Lines starting with # are comments and should not be translated.
